Class Schedule
- In what term will the winter classes appear in my class schedule?
Winter classes will be part of your Spring 2026 schedule.
- When can I register for winter classes?
Spring 2026 Advance Registration will occur November 3-21 for current and returning students. Enrollment appointments are assigned by earned credit totals and will occur each day between 8am - 4:30pm.
- Graduate Students: November 3
- Seniors: November 3-4
- Juniors: November 5-9
- Sophomores: November 10-14
- Freshmen: November 15-21
- Unclassified: November 21
Students new to UNI beginning with the Spring 2026 term will register during orientation.
- What are the winter classes dates?
December 22 - January 16
- How many winter classes can I take over the 4-week timeframe?
Students are limited to a total of 4 hours of Winter Classes.
- How often do winter classes meet?
Meeting patterns will depend on the class. Students should review the meeting pattern and notes within the course details when selecting winter classes. Due to the compressed timeframe, students should expect these classes to be more rigorous and demanding.
- Will classes require minimum enrollments to be offered?
Yes. Winter classes must meet minimum enrollment requirements. Students will be notified if classes fail to meet minimum enrollments.
- How many units can I take during the spring term?
A student may register for a maximum number of units in a semester without permission based upon undergraduate/graduate status or academic standing (on alert or probation standing). If you wish to enroll above this maximum through your combination of winter plus regular spring units, you will need to submit a Student Request Form for approval to register for an overload. Students should talk with their advisor about course overload plans.
Tuition and Fees/Financial Aid
- Will I be charged additional tuition to take winter classes?
Winter classes will be charged in addition to any Spring 2026 courses on a student's schedule. The 2025-26 tuition rate is $366 per unit of undergraduate credit and $586 per unit of graduate credit. Tuition and fees overview.
Supplemental tuition will be assessed for Wilson College of Business and Nursing students.
Example: If a student enrolls in a 3-credit hour winter session course, and 9 credit hours of spring coursework, the student will be assessed 9 credits of spring 2026 tuition plus winter session tuition for a 3-credit course.
Example: If a student enrolls in a 3-credit hour winter session course, and 12 credit hours of spring coursework, the student will be assessed 12 credits of spring 2026 tuition plus the winter session tuition for a 3-credit course.
- How will I be billed for winter classes?
Winter classes will be billed with the Spring 2026 term. U-bills will be generated on 1/2/2026 and will be due on 1/20/2026.
- Will I be able to receive financial aid to pay for my winter classes?
Yes, winter classes can be covered by spring financial aid. Financial aid will be disbursed on Tuesday, January 13, which is prior to the January 20 due date.
- Are payment plans available?
Yes, payment plans are available. More information can be found on the Student Accounts website.
- Will there be student employment available during winter break?
Take a look at the UNI Job Board. Employment opportunities are continually being added. If you are currently employed, check with your supervisor regarding availability over the break.
On-Campus Housing/Dining
- Can I live on campus during the winter break?
Yes. Students with a 2025-26 academic year housing contract can live on campus continuously through winter break. Students are not asked to move off campus over breaks. Students moving on campus for the spring semester should contact Housing & Dining if they wish to move-in earlier than January 12, 2026.
- Is there an additional cost to live on campus during the winter break?
No. The dorms remain open through winter break. Students with a 2025-26 academic year housing contract can live on campus continuously through winter break with no additional cost.
- Will there be food options available during the winter break?
Yes. Biscotti's convenience store will be open during break. Piazza and Rialto will reopen for the Spring semester. For hours, visit the UNI Dining webpage.
